Private driver in California: how it works and what it's worth

The difference between a private chauffeur, a ride app and a group tour — and when each one makes sense.

Private chauffeur beside an electric SUV in California

A private chauffeur is not a ride-hailing app with a nicer car. The difference is that the same professional stays with you all day.

What actually changes

  • The vehicle stays with you: luggage, shopping and jackets remain on board between stops.
  • The itinerary is yours: last-minute changes, extra stops and breaks are part of the service.
  • Language and context: service in English, Portuguese and Spanish, with commentary on what you are seeing.
  • Predictability: an agreed price before the trip, no surge pricing, no cancellation en route.

How it is priced

Transfers are a fixed price per leg. Full-day tours are charged as a day rate, usually 8 to 10 hours, with additional hours agreed in advance. Tolls, parking and airport waiting time are included.

When it makes sense

Families with children or older travellers, groups with luggage, business trips with several meetings, winery days, and any route outside the city — Napa, Yosemite, Highway 1, Tahoe.

Our standard

A 100% electric SUV, water on board, child seats on request, flight monitoring and an email confirmation with your booking code.
