Yosemite from San Francisco: how to plan the trip
Real distances, required reservations, the best viewpoints and how to turn Yosemite into a comfortable day.

Yosemite sits about 200 miles from San Francisco — 4 to 5 hours each way. A day trip is entirely possible, but it needs honest planning.
Day trip or overnight?
- Day trip (14-16 hours): leave at 5am, spend 5-6 hours inside the park. It works well on a short stay.
- One night: lets you catch sunrise in the Valley, take Glacier Point without rushing and see the sequoias at Mariposa Grove.
Reservations and entry
In peak season the park requires a timed entry reservation on top of the vehicle pass. Rules change from year to year — we confirm and arrange this before every departure.
Best season
- April to June: waterfalls at full volume (Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil).
- September and October: stable weather, fewer visitors, weak falls.
- Winter: a snow-covered Valley is spectacular, but chains are required and Tioga Road closes.
Essential stops
Tunnel View, Yosemite Valley, Bridalveil Fall, El Capitan Meadow, Glacier Point (summer) and Mariposa Grove.
How we run it
We leave early in a 100% electric SUV, with water, planned stops and a comfortable pace — including for families with children or older parents. You enjoy the park instead of facing ten hours behind the wheel.
